(For more about me, see here.) My first homepage went online in mid-’97. It had, like most home pages at the time, very little of interest; except that two or three book reviews that were included did, apparently, interest some readers. With time, I have added more and more reviews, in a special section I have nicknamed “the bookshelf”. By the year 2000, this was the major part of my homepage; by 2002, it was the only part left of my homepage (well, except for a CV that I kept around for work-related issues). Over the years, I received feedback by e-mail from many readers. However, I recently decided it is time to make the feedback public, and allow readers to discuss the books reviewed. So the Bookshelf was migrated to a blog-like software system (which I have originally developed for Hebrew websites, such as 1, 2, 3, and others). After lots of preparation, including a transfer of all the old reviews and the publication of a few new ones, the new system is now up and running. I hope you will enjoy it. P.S.: The bookshelf’s subtitle is “a collection of personal opinions about books”. Personal opinions, yes, but not just my opinions. A couple of readers were generous enough to submit their own book reviews. If you’ve read a good book recently, and would like to publish a review here, don’t hesitate to e-mail me. Only, please include the word “bookshelf” in the e-mail subject.
